Both sharp and soft: Introducing the GR III HDF and GR IIIx HDF.

Built-in HDF (Highlight Diffusion Filter) for softer expression.

The existing GR III and GR IIIx are newly equipped with the HDF (Highlight Diffusion Filter), which enhances light and produces a softer depiction, enabling emotional expression similar to that of film photography and movies.

By diffusing incoming light, the filter reduces overall image contrast and blurs whites in bright areas, giving the image a soft, fluffy appearance.

HDF OFF

HDF (Highlight Diffusion Filter) is a filter printed using Ricoh’s long-standing inkjet Printing technology. Highlights are diffused and surrounding areas are blurred.

*ND filter is not installed and is replaced by HDF.

Special design for HDF models only

The release button is painted a grayish silver color. The appearance changes depending on the angle of light.

HDF ON/OFF switching function is assigned to Fn button by default.

2 new features

Up to 3 custom white balances can now be registered. The base white balance and your own fine-tuned white balance can be assigned in combination.

The new firmware includes “Zone-select AF,” which allows the user to select any zone within the 3×3 focusing area* and automatically focus on the appropriate position within the area.

In fact, when you are taking a picture, you see only a part of the scene in front of you.

Unlike mechanical lenses that capture everything sharply, the human eye only perceives clearly what you intend to see. Therefore, your photographs can show you what you were reacting to beyond your conscious intentions at the time of shooting.

As you continue to photograph your daily life, you can capture the rhythms and tones of life that you may only see at the edge of your eye without being conscious of it.
Although they may seem monotonous, you find subtle intonations, physical changes of light with the seasons, and the flow of time in your photographs.

That is what photographs record, an expression of the “daily life” that only the person who attempts to capture it can manifest.

This is one form of expression that only the medium of photography can offer.

Special Body Color and Ring Cap

The body is colored metallic warm-gray, whose finish is as friendly and comfortable as stationery, while maintaining the high quality feel of a tool. The painted texture gives it a slip-resistant functionality when gripping. The grip is colored dark-brown, adding the similar warmth as the body color.

The ring cap is colored natural silver. The pure metallic color accentuates the texture surrounding the lens.

Special Body Color and Ring Cap

Inspired by street photographers who are in their element on the asphalt pavement, the metallic gray body has a unique texture created through repeated and complex painting processes. It’s smooth but enables excellent grip, a combination of design and functionality.

The navy blue ring cap is specially designed to evoke the impression of an azure sky reflected in a puddle after a rain, or neon lights of a city that never sleeps and their reflections.

Special Functions

A new exposure mode, “Snap Distance Priority Mode” has been installed. By setting the snapshot distance and depth of field (DOF) in advance, you can instantly recall the setting. DOF3, in particular, sets the f-stop so that the depth of field is close to pan-focus, allowing you to enjoy faster shooting.

“Auto-area AF (Center)” has been added to the the Focus. Auto-area AF works around the center of the frame (9 areas) instead of the entire frame. This prevents the camera from focusing on unintended areas such as the ground in front of you, allowing you more control of your street snaps.

Other additional features

• “Enable AF” has been added to the Shutter Button Setting. It is now possible, when the shutter button is pressed halfway, only the AF is locked without locking the AE.
• “3.5m” has been added to the Snap Focus Distance.
• Long tapping on the playback screen can now recall the Playback Settings.
• The Urban Edition features a special power-off graphic with a street-like background and special logo.

The Special Limited Kit includes a special genuine leather hand strap and metal hot shoe cover that match
the design of the Urban Edition.

The luxurious genuine leather hand strap is based on the standard GS-2 and features a navy blue swivel (leather ring) to match the ring cap of the camera, a special version that matches the design of the Urban Edition.
